Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority Upgrading Equipment Once Again

Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) is a government agency and the only electricity provider in Puerto Rico. Seventeen years ago, PREPA purchased its first Radix meter reading system that included 150 handheld computers and 240 infrared printers. It allowed the company to achieve greater staff productivity and improve services delivered to an estimated 1.4 million customers throughout Puerto Rico and other remote locations. The company has been a Radix customer ever since.

In 2000, in order to handle the growing needs of its customers the original FW60 handhelds were upgraded to the FW200. Right now PREPA is in the process of upgrading to the FW500. The ultra-rugged FW500 handheld has been designed to deliver the performance and reliability in the harshest and the most extreme environments utility companies face. Based on popular Windows CE, the FW500 features the industry's top drop and shock specification, rain and dust sealing and a broad operating temperature range making it the ideal mobile solution for the arduous task of everyday meter reading.

Over the years, Radix helped PREPA conquer the challenge of supporting unattended operations and remote locations at more than 35 geographically dispersed locations. Radix stood by PREPA at every stage of the process - from installation of the upgraded equipment to the training of staff. Dedication to the high quality of its products and great customer service helped Radix acquire and retain such loyal customers as PREPA.
